Record a belt promotion
Put a new belt or stripe on a student's record, and find the academy's promotion history afterwards.
A promotion is worth recording the day it happens. The belt shows on the student's profile and at the check-in screen, the date starts the clock on their time at that rank, and the academy's promotion history writes itself from these entries.
Steps
Open the student's Belts section
Find the student on the Students page and open them. On their profile, use the On this page rail to jump to Belts. It lists every belt and stripe they have been awarded, newest first, with the date and who awarded it.
The belt itself is drawn in the row, so a glance down the column reads as a career. Add the promotion
Press Add belt. Pick the belt, type the number of stripes, and set the date it was awarded. Use the date of the grading, not the date you are typing it in — everything that counts time at rank counts from here.
Stripes on a fresh belt is zero, not blank. TipRecord stripes as they are given, not in a batch at the end of the year. A student's stripe history is the fairest answer to "when am I next up?"Check itThe new belt appears at the top of the list, on the profile card above it, and beside their name at the check-in screen the next time they tap in.The academy's list
Settings › Belt promotion is the same information for everyone at once rather than one student at a time. It is the screen to work from on a grading day, when you are recording a dozen promotions in a sitting.
Same records, seen sideways: by date rather than by student.
What happens next
Entries can be edited and removed from either screen. Correct the date on an entry rather than adding a second one for the same belt — two entries for one rank make their time at rank read wrong ever after.
Nothing is sent to the student automatically. If you want them to hear it from you, send a notification — a grading-day message to everyone promoted is one of the few emails members genuinely enjoy.
Settings › Reports keeps Student promotion reports: a file per run, with how many students it covers and the date, ready to download as a spreadsheet. That is what to hand an affiliation that asks for your grading records.
Common questions
A student's belt looks wrong at the check-in screen. The screen shows the newest entry on their Belts tab. If that is right and the screen is not, reload the tab — a kiosk left open all day is showing what it fetched this morning.
Can I promote several students at once? Yes. Work from Settings › Belt promotion rather than opening each profile in turn.
We use stripes on kids' belts with different colours. Record the belt as your academy names it and the stripes as a number. Roll Pay does not impose a syllabus.
Does a promotion change their membership or price? No. Belts and billing are unrelated.
